I share these in hope of aid rather than criticism - although constructive i do appreciate
Photoshop day 0: I did not know what a layer was or much else for that matter
Photoshop day 1: So i don't know what to make so find a random on the request page and make an attempt - skill progress is i found a lighting effect
Photoshop day 2: I went so overboard with the blur smudge tool i discovered and i also learn how to layer and now know what a c4d is
Photoshop day 3: Overboard seems to have become my signature as i find a new effect and don't know how to control it yet
This one i tried to do everything i had learnt up to this point into a single sig - overboard
Photoshop day 4: Wow i was so impressed with myself - i did this as a request from the sig request thread for Earth Stony - a diamond in the rough for me
Photoshop day 5: I attempt to create an effect by smudging c4d renders and it ends up kinda messy but still unique i guess - every failure is a learning experience
So i'm a week into Photoshop and am still trying to learn all of its capabilities - any advice or comments would be great. So far i have only used the standard Photoshop stuff - am in the process now of building up a collection of brushes etc to add.
Here's hoping i can get to Baka's quality

Maybe this one he will confident enough to use and not feel embarrassed, honestly thought i would prefer an awesome sig like Moogle's over a blank space any day - *SHOUTS* teach me please Moogle

These are my most recent...
They are oldest are on bottom, newest on top.
As you can see I've gotten considerably better at blending / Photoshop in general. (Points at God of War sig...)
PS...Jenan....sorry I'm taking so long on yours...no time >< Work is done Sept 5... I'll have plenty of time to get yours done then!

Hey Reaper, you and I are both learning Photoshop right now...
We should get on Ventrilo, AIM, etc. one night and bounce ideas / new things / resources, etc off each other and improve even more. BTW I like your sigs
You're catching onto photoshop very quickly haha. BTW what version do you use? I'm using 7... I may be getting CS3 soon..._________________

Yeah sounds good,
I'm on version 9 CS 2, i think my dad has CS 3 somewhere but i'll learn this one first then worry about getting the more powerful one.
At the moment i am getting a few new brushes and gradients etc because up until my last one i have been using only the standard stuff.
Found some nice brushes for the last sig though *points at purple one* - i love the dark branches in backround
In need of some decent fonts though
I'm also really busy at university at the moment but next week is looking better so will maybe contact you then - always wanting to learn
I had to edit this in - a week into photoshop and i get this request
"i wan Lina and Lion using laguna and finger... At Darkterror.. And it's miss, becuz of backtrack... So lina and lion will say "WTF??"
and at down.. There will be a SENTENCE IN yellow... "LUCKY LCKY HIM!!"
The background shall be Purple... Maybe can? "
Somehow i think that is beyond me - plus i haven't seen any lion renders

That sounds more like a comic than a signature...
I'd tell him/her, pick one hero doing one thing, and I'll be able to do it.
And whenever we get talking I have some GREAT photoshop, font, brush, gradient, style sites for you
I think I've gotten well over 100 new fonts, 400 new brushes, and about 75 new styles in the past week

Oh dammit now im hooked - spent the last 2 and abit hours making this when i should have been studying for a massive varsity test i have tomorrow
So worth it tho....lol
Next week i'm going to start skimming through the interesting and "reasonable" requests - i.e. no massive battle scenes with 10 hero's and their respective animations like that one asked for above.

Reaper lol... studying comes first. And it took you 2 hours? Not bad
I like how his breathing hose goes into the rock
PS Where did you get the rocky texture / brush?

Hmm I think its time I show some of my older works eh, I have practically retired from sig making already, it would be good to show how I learnt.
Okay, so first, I started off with paint, and then I bought Photoshop..
With photoshop, I started experimenting on all sorts of renders, layers and all, everything was self-taught and from tutorials..
This was the first sig that I made:
Oh yeah, I loved it and really enjoyed making it..
And was inspired to make more:
Next, I went on to making slightly more complicated ones, using gradient maps and more filters for blending:
And then I joined the sigshare volume 1 competition(organized by drew on sigshare.com and won second place, the prize was recognition and a badge thingy.
Then from the grunge-ish style I started moving on to more simple and neater looking sigs that were usually done by those deemed pros. Using c4ds and fractals I tried my best:
And then I continued on to experimenting with:
robotic/mechanical:
Vector:
Cone stamps:
Advanced c4d:
Finally, I was confident with my work, I decided to enter some competitions. Most of them I won second place but a few were memorable 1st placers such as:
which won me a fat $50 us dollars.
I finally moved on to the final stages of a sig maker's development, entering the smudging level. I could never get it right lastime, but finally got my technique right with the correct brushes:
And finally when I was confident enough for my big attempt, I tried a medium sized smudge peice. I would have done a large one but my computer is too slow:
It was quite a success and I continued furthering my studies into graphics with tons more tutorials..creating:
and this
At last, my final masterpeices were done and I became busier and busier. I do take some sig requests now and then but not too often..
final sigs:
Even though these sigs look like many, I have made at least 50 more in experiments and requests. I just can't find them or take credit for them. All of these are copyrighted too.
Nowadays, I only make sigs to stop from becoming rusty and for requests from good friends. Only work on big pieces now..
Well, thanks for reading..my 2 years of experience in photoshop and sig making summed up..

*Falls to the ground and weeps*
I'm only like 3 weeks into learning photoshop lol
Currently learning correct brushing / blending techniques
Smudge tool is coming along
My big thing I'm trying to learn is the pen tool and vectors...
Any tips on that?
Been reading tutorials like a mad man and gathering tons of resources (fonts, brushes, textures, websites, etc.) and trying to get very familiar with the program.
I have photoshop 7, but I think it would be in my favor to upgrade to CS3...but I dunno...
Oh ya, another big thing I'm trying to learn is proper texture / layer order techniques...
Anyway very impressive Amplirage, I hope to be as skilled as you when my 2 years rolls around!
Thanks for the submissions! BTW are you a professional graphic designer now?

*Tries to pick Markues up, sees the sigs reflection in his eyes and falls beside him*
@ Amp: Wow way to make us feel like failures lol, some...ok well most...hell all of it is amazing
But i guess after two years you pick up a thing or two - alas i am entering week 2 only on have only a bare supply of downloaded content to add to my stocks.
I would so love if you could write a short thing on how to properly integrate a c4d - i love the effect and the only tuts i have seen are for moderate users which skip over all the important stuff like how to blend them in etc.
How many of your sigs do you use custom filters and plug-ins to create those effects or is it all just technique?
<3 your assassin one - what brush do you use for the smudge? but hey im sure its not that simple to answer so np
@ Markues: Funny story - the effect on the right is a unsaturated version of the render with the ocean ripple filter and gradient overlay, on the left i used the ocean ripple again of the render with abit of blurring etc but it looked too harsh and really grotty. So i put about 3 layers of grunge brushing over it and then the white writing and those dark branches <3 them. Added a filter or 2, sharpened and added a pattern overlay - and thats the effect you see before you. You gotta love trail and error - keep messing to it eaither looks good or is so messy you gotta bin it.
