Arcane is made for casters with low mana pools. Intelligence heroes such has zeus have large mana pools so they recover mana fast on their own. You should buy items such as sobis or void stones if you want more mana regen.

Here's a quick rundown of how much regen you get from an arcane ring. It recovers 135 mana at 25 cost with a 33 sec cooldown. If you use it as soon as the cooldown ends every time you get 3.33 regen per second. You could get a void stone and a couple nulls for about the same cost and the regen will quickly get better than a arcane ring.

However, it is useful for recovering your allies mana. IMO you should let heroes such as earthshaker and tiny get it instead.

I know it's for heroes that need mana badly. My point is that for str and agi casters, arcane may be the only item you get for mana for them, so it is worth it for them. For intelligence heroes, they will getting items for intelligence anyway, such as scepter and guinsoo. So why delay getting those items when their mana pool and mana regen will be growing quickly as they level and buy ingredients for these items?

it is btr for str or agi hero dat needs mana badly....
exp, tiny.... with arcane, he can spam on creeps n get loadz of itemz....

Arcane has really lost it`s popularity when Bottle won teritory
Int hero get bottle early for better survivability, and sell it when they can suport their own mana/health
now arcane ring is to get for heroes that lack in their mana pool, such as Atropos

dude....its not about the regen rate.....u know,some heroes need mana immediately......such as:
Zeus>an enemy has 1/3 hp left and u want to spam your skills to kill him.unfortunately u dont have enough mana.do you want to wait for it to regen?

Mirana>u just stunned an enemy and hes in red hp.u wanna leap+starfall but after u leap u dont have enough mana.do you want to wait for it to regen?

the answer=No
its better to use something which gives u immediately mana,such as arcane(as u mention),bottle

Your examples have nothing to do with that. Like Darklord said its about mana awareness. I personally never get an arcane, only in 2v2 -apom where spamming IS A MUST to get lane control. I personally think arcane ring delays always your item build. A simply void stone + bottle does better overall.

To get the most for your money you should be using your arcane ring all the time. It would be a waste to get it and only use it when you get in big fights.

when you have lots of caster heroes which have insufficient mana regeneration (such as most agi and str heroes) you should consider buying one of them, especially if there are manaburners on the other team...it can be very annoying if earthshaker has no mana left and 4 enemies are pushing mid

arcane is good for heroes that have nukes for farming such as tiny who also benefit from the armor gain. or heroes who have healing spells like omniknight who can stay in the lane forever if he gets arcane ring.

I agree with the topic starter, its only really useful on hero's with lower mana pools that have to spam a LOT - ES, Tiny, Omni, PotM, others. Sure it helps Intel casters; but you can, as he said, get a better result from a couple Nulls and a Void Stone for less gold.

My other issue with Arcane is that it can't upgrade into anything - whereas a Void Stone can become Guinsoo, Refresher, Linkens, or Battle Fury (depending on the hero).
