Ive heard people argue regen because you don't need enemies to gain health, and that if your lifesteal dependent if you are stunned you might as well dig your own grave (case-and-point Nia'x). But with lifesteal there is no need to go to the fountain, just go munch on some nuetrals and bam your full health again. So discuss, what is the pros, and cons of both lifesteal and hp regen. Which is best? Which do you like having the most? Which do you get the most?

IMO, in early game its regen and in mid-late game its life steal coz you'll deal more damage, means more lifestel...

regen is only for int types, where they make regen items early game, then probably mekansm. for agi and str types, regen early on and MoM is a gigantic boost to DPS, and satanic is great for tanking + lifesteal.

Regen in no way can significantly help you in a fight unless you have like a 100hp persecond regen.
Lifestealing off neutral creeps only works mid-late game so simple thing is.
Early game Regen>lifesteal
mid-late game Regen<lifesteal

Pros and Cons
Life Steal
Cons
-probably ruins item build if forced in to the build
-over writes some natural orbs for heroes (exception vlad)
-level gap would be experienced if you went to chunk of some neuts, plus not to mention the damage the neuts give
-weakest life steal item is none budget friendly
Pros
-extremely helpful with high damage heroes
-helpful in 1 on 1 situations with heroes
-extremely helpful in team battles
- can be upgraded to different items
Regen
Cons
-slightly slower than life steal in some cases
-regenerated life can easily be taken off if not careful
-extremely dangerous to rely on regenaration while in a team battle
Pros
-a regenerating gives you exp while regaining (ex: tower hugging)
-works great with heroes with orbs
-price range is in different options ( EX: tangoe flask ror ROH HOt)
-can be upgraded to different items
-consumable item's cheap price makes regeneration a higher pick in league games.

to simplify terms
For people who need cheap regeneration items early , get regeneration
For people who want fast regeneration and an orb or not (vlad) get life steal

I agree with what most of you say. Regen at the start and lifesteal mid to end game. But imagine, you are on the run from an enemy with a nuke, which can just barely kill you. Of course you would want regen get back some health but can still be on the run. With lifesteal, you have to attack to get the health back, which is not suggested in the above situation. But regen is slower, and not very dependable in lane control and pushing. Life steal should go to high damage/ASPD heroes in team battles for maximum effect while regen should go to pusher type heroes.

Regen can save you when running away, Lifesteal can save your HP when in combat.
Get them both!

Regen...Lifesteal...eh, its all well and good. Regen if the hero can't use Orb Effect Items save for Vladimir's which is really handy. Lifesteal if i want the MoM and those other items. But basically I go for Strength items and anything that boosts HP like Vanguard. Can't steal life if you can't fight with Low HP, and can't regen if you're getting picked on or doomed, poisoned, etc...So i basically go for Vanguard, simply for Survival. If i get nuked by a powerful attack and survive with less than 50 HP, I say:
"Salamat sa Vanguard! Hahaha!" (Thanks to the Vanguard!)

Just an opinion... to counter a high regen is to get a strong head-on while to counter life steal is not to get hit or having higer armor.
Lifesteal won't work much on enemy with high armor cause it will reduce the total lifesteal gained. Or when having disable or evasion prevents lifesteal from doing its work. Lifesteal is not effective if a hero can't close in immediately to its intended target, still lifesteal alone is too dependent on damage and atkspd to reach its fullest potential.
As for regen, it's only good when the game is all about harrassing and maintaining a lane. Getting on a head-on outside your tower or team mates either forced by gang bang or backstab is quite a suicide. Regen is not effective if a hero can't stay out of the hot zone quick, only hp and armor will save that hero for the moment.
I agree that having both is much better.

my opinion
i only get lifesteal depending on hero and situation if the game is quite slow and enemy doesn't put that much phase on his attack (it's like this one guy he uses riki and i'm a heavy tanker all he doe is attack once then runs back hiding so on and so fort) i manage to go for a high speed recovery (a linken and a HOT) or if my enemy goes for a high speed phases i'd turn on lifesteal
but as much as possible i only use regen on early game to mid game then life steal if my attack damage is powerful enough or quite decent
