What items for which heroes? PLEASE HELP!

Alright, so I am fairly new to DotA, and I'm having trouble knowing what items to get for heroes. I know you get Int. items for Int. heroes, and I know if you need hp you get Str. items, etc., etc. When I play -ar games, I always have to ask for an Item Build for my hero. Is there any classifications for heroes so I know what items to get for them,(ie tanks)? Or are there any tells (low dmg, high hp) that will make me want to get certain items and stay away from others?

you might need to memorize all the items so you can get them much more faster.
and picking items, it's always situational to buy this and that. lemme just give you examples :

situation :

i am nortrom. my enemy heroes are killing me so easily because of my puny HP and i have no escape mechanisms. i can't even kill because of my low damage!

answer :

neutral creeps and playing safe. when don't see an enemy hero in the minimap, you might be a prey for the predator. guinsoo is what you need. gives you enough attack speed and mana regen, damage and int, and a disable as your escape mechanism. guinsoo has very cheap components so you can easily farm for it.

situation :

i am techies. i have so low HP that i can't even get near them to suicide, i also don't have mana regen to keep spamming mines.. i can't buy items because its very hard to farm with techies with his very low base damage.

answer :

blink dagger and void stones. yes, many of 'em. then turn them to eul's or perse > linkens. lvl 4 proximity mines and lvl 1 remote mines can wipe out a whole creep wave and those 2 mines doesn't need that much regen or mana for some int hero like techies. every void stone makes mining much easier. and they only cost 900 gold! i'd suggest 2 void stones first, then an int item since mana regen items regen mana by percent, not by a fixed rate like HP regen items.

blah blah blah.. if you want to tank, buy HoT. if you want to kill buy DPS items. if you need something to use to escape, blink dagger or lothars can do.

everything depends on the situation, your enemies, or what you need.

each hero has its own core items and many other situational items. to find out which item suits a certain hero, either read guides or try each hero against ai and test different item builds.
