DotA - P2P
Posted: Sat Sep 06, 2008 7:12 amIF Icefrog or some game design company were to take DotA and give it a make-over that included:
-better graphics (Ex. Finaly Fantasy or WoW quality)
-new heros
-new items
-more MAPS (Yeah, this one is a biggie, 3 lane is gettin old)
-more neutrals
-new terrain (with new maps you need new terrain)
-more + better sound effects
-more game modes
-more intelligent AI maps
-thorough storyline for all maps + heros + origin of ancients
-more options overall
Would you PAY 2 PLAY DotA?
Forget paying monthly, would you pay approx $35 - $50 USD to buy a game that is a major advanced version of DotA?

I would. $35 Bucks? I spend more than that within a week on junk food alone, I'd willingly give up a week of food I don't really need to get a game. I would pay $100 for the new maps alone. Maybe we could be playing with more than three lanes for a change.
P.S. DotA is a Custom Game, it was not created by Blizzard although it is played on WCII - Fr. Throne.
Description of DotA from wiki
Defense of the Ancients (often referred to as DotA) is a custom scenario for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft. The scenario was developed with the World Editor of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, and was updated upon the release of the Warcraft expansion The Frozen Throne. There have been many variations of the original concept; currently, the most popular is DotA Allstars, which has been maintained by several authors during development.
Blizzard created the World Editor and Aeon of Strife map on Starcraft so in a way they did 'help' created DotA but to be honest I'd say they only deserve about 0.1% of the credit.
Credit: Eul(Original RoC version) --> Guinsoo(After update of Fr. Throne) --> Icefrog(versions 6.0+).
**Items were named after the creator + 'perserver'.

This was suggested before and I dont think its a good idea. It's good already as it is and the copyright issues will never allow him to do sthng like this, let alone if he can. Game design is a very hard job that requires companies. And all the stories of heroes and their spells and abilities (their codes n stuff) come from the ladder game. Basically it could be thought of but never could be done.

I wouldnt pay neither. Dota is a team/strategy game not a massive online multiplayer game like WoW. It was never meant to be and never will be.

I certainly won't. See, it would become like WoW. Usually games like that keep the levels, meaning you can't replay another game. Also, the beauty of DotA is that it is more of a game where people just have fun and then turn off, not the type that you need to pay to play and level up your skills. Something like CounterStrike. And this is also the reason DotA is included in the WCG and other competitions.

Nah. Not interested.
And btw, you can put your opinion in the starting post of your topic - no need to answer yourself on a second post right after your first (AKA: double posting)

I'm not asking for anything like wow, I'm just looking for more maps.
WoW = train train train, PK, and train some more
DotA = Single games, when ones done, you start new.
My suggestion is nothing like wow.

Well yes the idea would be great, but would it be good, and would it be worth paying for? I disagree. Don't ruin the game. That's the last thing we all want.

Definately a no. Profits would be minimal especially seeing most of your classic dotA fan base are already used to the fact that dotA is free. You would lose so much popularity with the introduction of p2p. Soz mate. A big no no.
