Ok, Azraith is like, the god of illusion! he totally unkillabe :p. Check out my strategy for him.

man...he is my bestest hero....there are two ways to play him..
1v1 : make him a radiance...so that his duplicates and him do mega damage with 10 immolations AURAS!!!!
or go for a manta style so that you can duplicate him infinitely...:D
that is for 1v1....instead make him yasha then sange and then S&Y so that he can once again rule..:D

hes a very good hero slayer and farmer, but unless u get this guy to lvl ASAP, ur basically screwed. attach rapier and buriza and manta style and butterfly and radiance is the ultimate build for this hero. hes unkillible unless u hav true sight or wards. his ulti seems kinda gay but its really really good!

I think this seems very fine

One of the best late game heroes ever. Totally undefeated in one on one combat. Very vulnerable early game. Treads then Manta ASAP. Try to get damage boosting skills without additional speed ie MKB. Don't go for criticals unless you have a buddy around as crits will give you away to experienced players. That is if they can get around the skewer-fest around them :D. In the hands of a very good last hitter the game will be decided.

I found it hard to kill with this guy without manta style. He has slow base movement speed.

You usually don't hyperstone because the attack speed % does not apply to your clones. Only attack speed and damage from your agility will go to the clones. On top of that when PL is jumping up and down like a madman while every other one isn't it becomes really easy to tell which one is the real one :D. Pros can even tell which one is the real one even if they all have the same attack speed (the real PT hp doesn't move very much.) You could counter this by shuffling the clones: move PT clones around and in and out. Do this fast enough and people won't be able to tell anymore.

Acually hyperstone aint that bad, after all the faster you attack, the more faster clones come. The faster the clones come, the more ownage you get XD

just have this hero ultimate damage items and pure agi. thats it.. this hero is really easy to use

butterfly, hyperstone, PT, basher, manta and aegis (the real u shall never die MUHAHAHA). high attack speed = greater chance to clone more,

Manta and dopplewalk are enough.
3x7% for your 3 clones to duplicate.
18% for you to duplicate.
Total of 39% of duplication.
LVL 16 equates to rough a hit every 0.8 (with butterfly, no stats) seconds. So you theoretically have a 97.5% of duplication every 2 seconds. So in 5 seconds you should have doubled your amount of copies (now 6 copies). That should be enough to make a collision cage (enemy can't escape due to your char being there). Of course this can occur slower as well as faster. I've had max clones pop up in 4 seconds after a dopple-manta combo.
Of course in a public game a pure dps build would be just fine. However, it isn't hard for an experienced nuker to draw a bead on you with the laguna refresh combo when you're attacking really fast. And with the PT animation it is really oblivious who has 200% aspd and who doesn't. Experienced tankers with blade mail can monitor the hp bars around him really well if you don't have HoT. But hey, whatever works right :D?

i play dis guy conservatively, i only dw to escape and dont use manta style. i spam copies mostly by atacking creeps. as long as i hav maxed skils in juxtapose and ph.edge, i can make 2 copies, and then quickly make the max # of copies from there. then i make sure i hav targets to always spam replacement copies. i go for hot and max dmg items, i.e. bnk+s&y+radiance. d idea is for all copies to deal max punishment. the enemy hero who tries to ignore my copies just get hp whittled down to the point he wants to escape, so then i do spiritlance and me and all copies close in for the kill. main challenge for this hero is to farm and level up as fast or faster than enemy heroes. pl absolutely cannot lag behind in levels and gold!!

hey which is better the phantom lancer's sommon or death prophet summon in terms of damage?

battlefury is a staple item for all my melee builds. its THE farming implement of choice. wats more, each component of it contributes to the whole, it does not require a scroll, therefore u can consider the cleave effect as being a bonus as against an effect that u hav to pay for (i.e., windwalk effect for lothars edge)

since pl's clones do small damage, crystalis-buriza+battlefury is an ideal combination. battlefury in itself is good for the real pl, but for his slimshadies, parang hilaw dba?

This hero is so fun I played with him the first time today and used the strategy by Heaven(HH) and wow by the end of the game my score was 5-0 (and we won ) Pure fun, especially when his images can produce images of their own. I was laughing when I was creeping and suddenly there were 8 images

in 6.39 and above versions does eye of skadi slows enemies when you use phantom lancer

unbeatable at late game...

This hero can determine win or lose.

My favorite. Possibly the strongest character in game. Not even faceless void can kill this guy.

ok so they have animation canceling in dota, and you can abuse that with PL. Start mass cloning on creeps and get about 8 in 3 seconds. Then push like mad

Amazing! possibly the ult build for him (if you could afford it) would be eye of skadi(i love that thing! great for anyone!), butterfly x2, boots of travel (butterfly can sub for treads), lothars edge, and a heart, for health. That would be (at lvl 25 with all stat bonuses included) 2996 health, 112 to 134 dmge +126 (w/ stat bonus, butterflies and lothars edge), and 1482 mana (not that you'd need that much mana for him...you'd need 200 for DW and SL together). It's too bad about the butterfly because i don't think the evasion stacks but still, you'd be damn good. HOLY SHIT!!! lol

you could also actually sub lothars out for S&Y, but then you'd have 2 orb effects...

use buriza hehehe.. the illusions will have a critical strike or try also cranium basher....but don't forget to power up his attack speed to make illusions faster.....

Buy Mjollnir. With static charge you can kill him in late game.
You also need gem to see him when he is in wind walk...

I think Mjollnir is only way to kill him in late game because of his illusion mastery

diffusional blade can also help, but the charges are limited (deals extra damage to illusions)

F-void can kill him with basher, mkb, satanic, and butterfly. Just send a hero to place wards, he will finish him.

echo slam hits invisible units, so even if he dopplewalks, es still pwns him >

LOL so u gonna kill one illusion with purge and u will achieve nothing with that because another will generate in 1 sec(that is really waste of purge).
For echo slam: with hood of defiance lancer will certainly survive this and when he attacks u next time u will die(echo slam has big cooldown)
For khronut: What is the use of basher,MKB... when u dont know which one to hit and ward(or gem)see invisible units but u wont know wich one is real and which one is illusion and they will pawn you(and your mana)very fast. I would say in the moment u gain basher + demon edge(for MKB) he will have manta and generate illusions sickly fast. If u cast your ulti u may just find yourself in the middle of 5-8 frozen lancers(
I am not saying that FV cant kill him, ofc he can, i am just saying if u are playing against pros it will be very difficult to kill him in late game without Mjollnir, so i suppose the best way to play against this hero is to kill him as much as u can in early game, and not allow him to easily gain manta and other items that make him one of the best late-game hero.

I won (copies, attack tower), but really unsatisfied...

i really like this hero, manta style is the way to go for this guy. he's kinda hard to use at low levels but once you get this guy at a decent level (9-12) without being outleveled by your opponents, they better watch out. this hero is so superb in pushing, he might not even need to retreat in doing so even if he get's outnumbered. just lay it low on early levels and try not to get so aggressive, phantom lancer is unlikely to get pawned if you use dopplewalk defensively. lance is spamable but as a rule, use it only when if you'll still have enough mana to for dopplewalk. manta+heart+butterfly(or just eagle horn, or two yashas)+bot would suffice to end the game. you may not need to upgrade your perseverance to linken sphere. ring of basilius+ vanguard would also be a nice alternative to perseverance.. buriza and radiance are luxury items. he's one of the best late
game heroes. and try not get any life steal aura or worse orb effect. the enemy could spot the real phantom with these. make good use of the illusions, my fave trick is confusin the enemy and makin them waste their ultimate skill (i.e laguna blade of lina) to pawn an illusion...

@ uki1, im just sayin it works, i didnt suggest that it was a great counter azwraith item, unless ur lucky enough to hit the real azwraith so he moves slowly
@ natsirt_alucard, its advised that u do get mekanism though, vladmirs is just to improve the survivability of ur clones, only for a little bit though

hey lupeman! zup? about vladimirs, i dont really think it would be a nice idea for azwraith. correct me
if i'm wrong but illusions dont gain life steal bonus from the aura although they exhibit the shining shimmery effect (fake life steal aura). not only that it's non benificial for the illusions, it would also help your enemies spot the real phantom lancer if he has vladimir's for he will surely have big discrepancy in hp's compared with his illusions. as for mekanism, illusions dont really need to be healed as phantom lancer could always replace them with new ones. maybe an empty potion bottle will do.

ok, i'll justify in layman's why people should get the followin for azraith.

manta style - seriously, i dont think anyone should argue with this. phantom edge will make the illusions trigger juxtapose and i dont see any reason why
you shouldnt like havin 2 more comin from manta style for that. also, mana feed back is most feared, watch king leoric beg for his life as you deplete his mana to zero. having it is like phantom lancer bringing his "A" game at all times. boosts in primary attribute, a bit of int(due to robe of magi), higher hp (due to vit orb), more illusions that whack mana (yes they do...) what more could you ask for?

eagle horn (upgrade to butterfly; optional) or 2 yashas - cant say much
but this is better than gettin crystalis that would later on be upgraded to buriza. ive tried this a lot of times, lancer's illusions play a
great role in winning the game and equippin agi type items are the best way to toughen them up.

heart of tarasque - see an opponent willing to face 8 lancers with hp's 2k+? i dont think so.. make them cream
their pants.

boots of travel - yep, a bit expensive for a pair of nike's but way better than power treads.. you see, the problem with treads is that your illusions dont benefit with the additonal attack speed and when your opponent sees a lancer who whacks like crazy and outstands every one of his copies in attack speed, it's really a no brainer that he's the real one. so better blend in with your illusions and
make them run fast..

perseverance (option 1) - do i have to explain this? hp and mana regen dude.. once you
have your manta and eagle horn or 2 yashas you could prioritize gettin an ultimate orb and upgrade this to linken
sphere over gettin tarasque or vice versa..

RoB + vanguard (option 2)- this a good alternative for perseverance although vanguard would be kinda out phased by heart of tarasque and RoB would be stuck the way it is until late game.. lancer looks nicer with linken sphere if you have the time to farm that is..

and everything else would fall under expendable and luxury items.. i did try
other builds but this one proved to be the best. so there you have it.. own the game when playin PL!!!

harbinger's arcane orb is indeed a pain in the ass and sanity's eclipse has always a been a threat to non int heroes but what makes you so sure that you'd be able to farm for aghanims first before phantom lancer does? not that im suggestin pl would get aghanims, but he could just for fun... my point is pl is one of the good farmers in the game (not to mention better than harbinger).. so dont say that your not in for a tough race when
it comes to acquirin items. plus i did reccomend usin linken sphere for a bit of added protection (and a +10 to all stats). beware of juxtapose and phantom edge, dont go braggin that his illusions will disappear after
a few hits coz i couldnt care less if pl loses a bunch of illusions in one massive hit. he isnt naga siren or chaos knight you know... in mid/late game, pl could replace a pawned illusion with 2 or more just as easily.. lastly, manta is the best item for pl.. a perfect match, not excessive..

PL(host) was owning on a 5v5, he was doing DK's during team battles. I was playing gondar, and PL got a gem. PL was coming in a team battle last because lina, kardel, and razor can clean his images in a snap. So I meyself, told my teammates will be coming in last also and prioritize casting track on PL once he appears.

PL had Radiance, Burize, & SNY, but never a Manta. I was able to ambush him 2x late game, alone; how??? I watched him solo a lane with all of his images(he had no gem), right before he engage the next scourge creep wave, all of his images is gone, so I timed him so that I will be behind him right before he engage coming scourge creep wave. Backstab-Track-hit-hit-hit...Toss... owned him.
Though I highly doubt this is possible if he had a manta.

Just seeing some of the ideas on the comment board seems like most of the users havent actually tried out their little theories or won with the build on a public gaming making them believe it was a great and "perfect" build for this hero.

i knew about that site ages ago, but i had a theory about the bash on illusions. u still get the bash animation, but it doesnt bash. although it sez it prolongs a previous real bash, i think it doesnt actually do it, just restarts the bash animation again. afta the real bashes stun duration is done, the stun animation is still there, but they can move around.

Only reason i posted it that it shows the users the affects of the clone from that particular site because Icefrog actually posts on that site.The guide is very often referred to by the admins.

Also it was for you to see since you might see it again "vladmirs is just to improve the survivability of ur clones, only for a little bit though ".If you just skimmed the guide description it shows that lifesteal doesnt work on clones and I've seen it to be true.

his ulti? really hard to understand (was 4 me when i first got him on an -ar game) but if you've got lvl4 juxapose, thats when u get his ulti (yes this does mean DONT GET HIM ULTI TILL ~lvl 10) this is because his ulti is useless until you can get lots of images (except that opponants have a chance to miss him)

Well i dunno how u all guys play Phantom but i always level up first spirit lance and dopplewalk then juxtapose.Every time i've started him that way i always owned early game by last hitting and nucking.So i had lots of money mid game.

i get juxtapose and dopplewalk first. juxtapose will give me an early advantage and an early push.

y but this early advantage would be minimum cause ur attack speed is not good and at the most u would have 3 images max.for early push its easy both ways.U nuke them with ur first and either they g t regen or u kill them.I had a lot of first bloods and early kills with this skill build!

I go for a basher Azeroth, and the prolonging bash does work. Juxtapose is basically useless until midgame as you don't have the attack attack speed or high enough chance of forming an illusion to create an army. Also until you get level 2 or 3 phantom edge your images tend not to spawn themselves.

One thing I wanted to mention that no-one seems to have is how amazing PL is at farming the forest. With good micro management you can basically farm the whole forest very quickly by creating illusions and sending them off to farm other creeps, also if you aren't bothered about exp you can spawn a few images leave them to kill off the creeps and move onto another patch spawn images move on. Basically makes you the best farmer in the game imo.

even with my low chance of gettin juxtapose, if it does duplicate, i've pretty much own the lane.
i focus more on pushin then killin.

hes really hard at surviving early game but if he have manta and radience(all 10 illus will have the immulation aura)totally imba 350 per sec is insane

my build with this guy is get doppel and spirit lance and stat...till i get my manta which is my second box item...then i get my clones...my first item is robe of magi then boots then ror then make it treads then robe of magi again...basically u just spam the lance and use doppel if u gona escape...at this point ur just a support hero...then after i get manta i get vlad...so that i could get lifesteal and mana burn...then go for heart...then cleave...i use cleave to quickly push enemies away and damage...also so that when ur clones is ganging up with the enemy u could still hit him while hitting creeps only then radiance...so basically i go for treads, manta, vlad, heart, battlefury, radiance...

Hi to everyone! I don't have time to write a strategy, but I'll try to make a kind of short strategy, which will (I hope) help someone in trying to either play with or kill PL.
OK so its early-game now(0-12 lvl). You should buy a chicken and a bracer or something else that will increase your HP(gauntlets of ogre strength for example).You should also buy a headdress or ring of regeneration (bottle is also good alternative).If you are fighting melee heroes it would be good if you'd buy a stout shield (not vanguard).IMO you should max out spirit lance and dopplewalk and try to get the last hit while creeping.I'd say that you should try to concentrate in creeping and try to kill something with your spirit lance if you get a chance.
You should finish early-game with power treads, blades of alacrity and bracer(or diffusal blade if you have farmed well and maybe killed someone).With strength gained from power treads and bracer you should have enough hp.
Mid-game(lvl 12-18)is the most important part of the game for PL.If you have farmed well and survived during the early game, then it's time to start killing!First of all you should complete your diffusal blade.When you attack a hero you should first use dopplewalk and charge enemy hero with your illusion. Of course your opponent will easily kill it, but it has a slight chance in copying itself and a few fits will drain some mana.While your enemy is destroying your image you'll attack hero from behind and hope that you will create another illusion in two or three hits(in most situations you will). You should use spirit lance and purge (use this as much as you can cos it has small cooldown and I usually dont use all 10 charges before I get manta).With diffusal blade most of your opponents wont be able to run away and they wont be able to fight back because they don't know which one to hit and if they try to teleport use spirit lance cos it has ministun.
Killing with manta:If you and your opponent are creeping(not a very often situation though) then you should use dopplewalk.Your illusion should be creeping, while you are approaching to your opponent.When you are near him charge him with your dopplewalk illusion and use manta. Your opponent will be like ().Your illusion will quickly reproduce and drain his mana so he wont be able to use most of his abilities(for example it's very funny when you fight faceless void and he doesen't have mana for his time walk :)).If he tries to escape use spirit lance but sometimes your illusions will surround your opponent or just quickly kill him if he has low hp.(I also use this strategy when I am ganking and in a massive push with my teammates or destroying towers). You should have manta, power treads and crystalis(buriza) by the end of mid-game.
Late-game is part when you should dominate.There aren't any changes in playing style, only in items.

Something about items for PL: In my experience manta is the best orb effect item for PL and it is essential to get it as sooner as you can! You should also get crystalis or buriza since illusions can do crits too.Other good items you should get if the games doesn't end, is butterfly(since illusions benefit from agility bonus)and hearth.You can replace power treads with BoT since you don't need bonus 10 strength and illusions don't get the AS bonus.I think that dwad has made a good summary about which things work on illusions so if u want to know reason why u shouldn't get basher, vlads ,battlefury... u should look at that comment(its in PL section aswell).

If you want to kill PL in late-game, you should buy gem and mjollnir cos static charge is very effective against illusions and it would be good if you have heroes with strong AoE(Sand king, Earthshaker,Tormented soul, Treant...).So I'd say that the best way to fight against this hero is to try to kill and harass him as much as you can in early-game.

@deathlike25: You need a good counter for PL? I will give you the best 2- Axe with HoT, 4 blademails nad quirass; and Leshrac with aghanim, shiva 4 blademails; I exclude boots since we are speaking of 1v1 game - countering exactly PL and you wont need boots since you will not have to chase or run.

for me there is no need for manta. he just keeps making illusions but feedback is great though. battlefury i think is not really necessary since your images can only splash 35% of 25% percent of your damage. radiance is nice, and so is S&Y.

If I have manta on me , and 6 images around me...will every image burn mana from an enemy hero ?

I haven't seen a lot of people vary from the Manta style build. However, I find that Maelstrom to Moljinar works better and easier to farm.

My 6 Item late game build usually consists of ..in order of obtaining...

1) Treds
2) Malestrom --- Moljinar after vlads
3) Vlads
4) Butterfly
5) Battle Fury
5) Assault Curiass


You should be farming way more than enough gold after you get maelstrom...

By that time, you will get massive amounts of gold / hero kills
Once you get Moljinar...game is over

This hero is awaresome. I played with pro and always got 0 death. Just get BOT and always pushing. When there's an enemy, dopple walk and jump to another liane and push again...you will get lots of gold!!! Use Manta when facing tower...

- MKB or BKB depends on situation.

And don't get Radiance or Battle Fury. You need to allow sometime for yourself yourself and your image to hit in order to generate maximum images > For another push or possible team battle/ganking.

You definitely need Manta. The possibility of image generation on Juxtapose is random. If you are really bad luck, you may not get your first image, thus further images. If worst case happen, Manta allows you create 2 images, and hence this increase the chance to generate more images.

You prolly dunno how images work in dota..(for example no pure dmg will work on images like mkb +60 dmg and buriza + 75 and bunch of other things)

and your comment about how in pro games you always have 0 death with him.. I mean that is obviously not a pro game, or you just stay in fountain all the time.

1. you are a late gamer (meaning you are gank target)
2. you cannot run away from gank with dopple because they will buy ward to use just for gank...

and you mention manta being good because of extra 2 img creation, but you missed another major reason, which is the fact that mana burn is like one of the few orb effect that works on image meaning that your images will burn 36 mana on enemy as well as doing 18 dmg on hero (36 on creep). Also important thing about basher and image is that when images shows a bash image, it does not actualy bash (known as fake bash) so only the main phantom lancer bash, meaning it is not ideal on pl.

For canceling channel spells you already have spirit lance.
