Tank type hero, Farming is very easy for her.She can hit the creeps to average low HP and use Chain Thunder to get them all. She also has the best shield in Dota(50 percent dmg decrease),and the only hero with purge(worth at least $3000).I would to get her a diffusal blade for her when she is level 7. Double purge is funny. She has no skill to stun and escape(because she has no foot to run). She is badly depend on items,so when the situation does not allow you to farm well, you can do nothing. If in the middle game you did not farm well, in the late game, you are nothing again.PS:most of her skills is not very funny

Mana shield is her best skill, hands down. This is what makes her such an amazing hero and horrifying enemy. She counters many heroes that rely on buffs and summons with her Ultimate, Purge. Just stay away from Necronomicon and other guys that have Mana Burn (and feedback) and you should be fine. The larger her mana pool and regen is, the fiercer she will be. She's an agility-based hero because as an int-based she would be too good. Get good with this hero and you will be praised for your farming/hero killing skills.

Aghanims doesn't use Oblivion Staff. Guinsoo does. Still, not worth getting Aghanims on her as there are more better items for her. One example, Mjollnir. :)

IMO a late game hero that unfortunately gets beaten to a pulp by pretty much all other late game heroes. Strong support in the midgame with purge though, works great on Ulfsaar (overpower), Omniknight (repel), Sven (duh), KoTL's ult ($$$), and Broodmother. Going Stats/Shield from lvls 1-11 then split shot 12-15 is the best route. The early mana shield+stats combined with a void stone and RoR will make you pretty much immune to all forms of harassment (even against 2 heroes). I usually take void stone because it combines to make linkins later, otherwise I'm sure a sobi mask is more then sufficient. If pudge decides to hook-rot you early game, just take it like a gorgon and attack back because you're mana shield will outlast his health >

You should be able to farm extremely well with this hero (relic at lvl 10, even 9, ez) because mana shield is sooooo good at low lvls. I've gotten as much as 5k gold farmed before even going back to buy boots. Even if they come to gank you early, they wont have enough skills to use against you to disable your mana shield.

Once the late game comes around though you'll stand little chance against the big baddies unless you've severely outfarmed everyone.

Lastly, for the love of god, chain lightning is the absolute worst ability you can get on medusa, just kill yourself if you invest a point in it. The way I see it, chain lightning is medusa's own nether ward. Want to harass? Purge them as they back off from a creep wave and get 3-4 hits in (hopefully your creeps do the same).

If you are a firm believer in chain lightning, try this build once and, at lvl 3, activate mana shield and just start plugin' away at the enemy hero.

lol, rain that build is pretty bad, stats first? wtf lol. his makn himself untouchable at early game but makn her unable to farm effectly. ud want chain lightnin or split first so she can farm somewhat (i would choose chain lightin, buy a ring of basilus then make into vladmirs offerin, not best choice, but i like auras). buy an arcane ring asap and u cannot be touch with mana shield activated

The build sounds bad but in reality it works. I'll explain why:

By level 6 you have 2 lvls of stats, a great mana shield (1.5 mana per dmg), and purge. With a void stone and a RoR, you can farm pretty much indefinately. At around level 4 I go buy a void stone, and thats the only time until say... level 13-14 that I ever leave my lane (usually). Some games they will come with a 3-4 man gank on me, but with the manashield you can absorb (and im not kidding here) even a deadly lina+lion gank (yes, that means stun, dmg, hex, dmg, stun, dmg, dmg, ult, ult). You walk back to your tower, regen for 30 seconds tops, and get back to farming.

As for chain lightning, its simply crap. The skill does not synergize with mana shield at all. I always make the comparison, "If (insert hero here) required 400 hit points to cast (insert petty nuke here), would you cast it?".

With this setup I've gotten sacred relics by lvl 9, and even once got a mjollnir at level 12! Both without hero kills/leavers. Being untouchable = endless farming and xp gain, exactly what medusa needs to dominate mid/late game. Farming with last hits is a player skill you must have to play medusa, and its not easy because her attack animation is very long.

Another reason i dislike chain lighting: CL does alot of damage to creeps, and pushes hard. If you use chain lightning at all, you're pushing the battle farther and farther away from your tower and into theirs. A tower kill is great, but you're more prone to ganks, less able to harass, and of course it forces you to tower-dive to get a hero kill, all things I'd just assume avoid.

Also remember at level 11 you'll have 6 levels of stats. Thats +12 dmg, +12% attack speed, +228 hp, +156 mana, +25% more mana regen (1.87/s compared to 1.49/s). With mana shield, the bonus equates to about 540 more dmg you can soak in, which, at lvl 11, is about 30% more survivability. 6 levels of stats is equivalent to bracer, wraith band, and null talisman... approximately 1500g worth of items. You'd sacrifice that for a meager nuke that drains your life and early split shot? mmmm, doesn't way out imo.

Try the build out, you'd be amazed at how badass of a tank stats makes you in the early game.

@ rain9441. stats dont really grant much mana at early game. Int: 19 + 1.85. ur mana shield will only last like .5 second longer

theory-wise, rains build is the best way to go.. maximizing survivability early game is top priority for medusa.

if you practice enough you wont need chain lightning to farm. extra stats definitely help early game, provides nice str and int bonuses.

pretty much the point of this hero is to spam damage. I get radiance first to farm more and then buriza or mjolnir.

once he's high enough damage you can get split shot and kill 3 heros at once. Back in the day when u can buy aegis best strategy was rapier aegis right at beginning, but u cant do that anymore

Regarding radiance, buriza, and mjollnir:

Radiance isn't bad, the 60 dmg is nice, and the 35 dps aura goes well with split shot late game when fighting multiple enemy heroes. What I don't like about radiance though is the evasion gets faded out by Bfly (which is just fantastic now that its 30/30/30/30 vs 25/25/25/25), and the drop from 70 to 60 dmg is kinda lame.

Mjollnir: When mjollnir procs (200 pt chain lightning), you deal base, + 200 to multiple enemies. This is great, but if you have split shot activated, your other 2 arrows don't fire, so you are losing out on 66% of your damage when it procs. Mathetmatically, Mjollnir's proc deals equal or more damage overall if and only if your base damage does not exceed 400 (which it shouldn't), so its good most of the time. I usually don't favor Mjollnir because it negates split shot and doesnt proc when you are attacking a tower (with the 2 other arrows each going to nearby heroes).

Buriza on the other hand is far worse. Be very very avoidant of Buriza. When you crit, your 2 other arrows of split shot don't fire, so that 2.2x critical strike essentially reduces your damage by 66% (1 arrow instead of 3) then increases that one arrow by 120% (crit). Mathetmatically, the critical strike deals only 1.65x 'normal dmg' to one target, compared to 0.75x 'normal dmg' to three targets, totaling 2.25x 'normal dmg' overall. Buriza crit reduces your total damage output (using splitshot) by roughly 27%. Crystalis is even worse, reducing total damage by 42%. Don't carry crystalis around when you are using split shot!

This is why I usually tend to favor items like Bfly, Skadi, wraith bands, and strait up sacred relics, they synergize better with split shot.

i gotta say i really like pumping the chain lightning for farming, and i can usually get away if people come to gank me, just purge and run to tower. with purge and scythe/skadi she is a real team player, awesome for chasing down those pesky runners and making tiny or pudge impotent at just the right moment in a team battle.

so, i would start with sobi mask, then a void stone (side question: do they stack ?) - both of which will get used in the scythe, and then skadi. not so much dps but a great support hero / chaser. i find the purge / chain lighting combo gets alot of hero kills in mid game.

pls make a strat, i'd like to know how to use the very horrible hero.

Her shield is hella good, making her very hard too kil.

Purge removes Buffs as powerful as Gods strentgh :(.

Purge is abuse against warlock cuz makes his infernals almost useles.

Buy her, radiance, MKB, guinsoo and other dmg items (but not desolator or buriza) and her split shot is pawnage.

If you get diffusal blade u can do about 3 purges in a row. I dont recommend it though. Spam shield and stats and purge until lvl 11, get lightning to lvl 15, purge, stats, tri shot whenever after lvl17. i owned with her. i had mjollnir, butterfly, HoD, Arcane, treads and eaglehorn.

btw, ulti only deals 600 dmg to summoned units. Info above is wrong.

Why??? bec. if it concentrates on her stats 1st...mana shield...you can easily kill creeps also can earn golds fast..if your a good last hitter or denial of creeps... if you got Butterfly in mid game then its time you can add split shot next Vanguar or Defiance for another defence for str and int type hero... then in late game ones you have a EoS your invinsible farm witha tag in areas where its a danger of GB.. i won a lot of games with medusa..Stats inreases your regen of mana and HP. Relics are the final or DR...in two heroes you can kill both of them in a meare 55 sec. if you wouldnt back from their attack..Try me..huh

i just thought of something if you have bashers and u use split shot would it stun 3 units ? and same with buriza and criticals. she is easily one of the most versatile heros in the game she has no disables but she has a nuke a farmer ability a slow and a tank ability and if she can split-bash then she could be built to do just about anything. and battle fury with split shot so the 3 shots deal splash so she could deal normal damage via splash and bash. unfortunately im pretty sure that every thing i said involving split shot with those items is impossible or illegal =( T_T

Its good It can be used to chase heros or saving allied heros. Or it could
be used to deal damage to sommoned units, but I don recommend it. But see how u like to use it.

when i started gorgon, i thought the exact same thing and did your build without reading this forum. But as i've gained more experiance with gorgon. it realy depends what mindset you are in. because if your looking for kills, then chain lightnigh maybe very usefull to finnish a hero off. when i do get the ability, i never use it untill the end. and the reason i get it is because gorgon doesnt have any nukes, normal attack + purge just isn't enough to keep a hero from running alive.

and btw. i dont EVER get split shot. because it's simply useless, unless you suck at last hitting.. i mean. comon' why get split shot when u can just last hit? it decreases your attack. do you realy want that? instead of 8 bonus stats for all attributes?

Actually, If i had a choice to deal 200 dps to 1 hero or 150 to 3 heroes, I'd go with 150 to 3 heroes (450 dps). Split shot is great. I use it all the time!

Just a few days ago I randomed Medusa, quickly farmed a butterfly, and ended up getting triple kills inside the enemy base. My team pushed the 2nd tower with me tanking the whole time (tower+heroes), then proceeded to take the rax, me tanking the whole time. All I did was sit between the 2 rax, shoot at the tower, and any hero that came near me instantly was taking damage. Of course I had ezalor on my team so my mana shield was being pumped quite a bit. Imagine a level 16 Dusa sitting outside your spawn area in your base with half a skadi, a butterfly, and Chakra every 10 seconds.

I take stats until I cannot take stats anymore (lvls 1, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11, you can't take stats at 12 so u take split shot).

Compare split shot to other damage-increasing abilities of other heroes: Split shot reduces DPS by 25% BUT becomes tripled so its 225% DPS. Viper on the other hand, with 100% IAS, does not increases DPS by 100%. If you have treads+bfly+70 agility you already have 165% IAS resulting in 0.97 attack/second, the 100% boosts it to 1.55 attacks/second for a net damage boost of ABOUT 60%.

Due to the way IAS stacks and the way percent damage boosts work (only damage from stats is increased, like images), Most heroes' abilities look better than what they are, but Medusa's is strait up 125% damage increase (kind of like crit, buriza gives 22% damage increase or so, Mortred's 4x crit gives 45% dps increase). What would you rather have, 125% damage increase or 45%? Note that even if split shot only hits 2 heroes you still net 50% damage increase, which still is mathematically better than 4x crit.

The bottom line about needing a finisher is that you don't need a finisher. If the enemy runs from you and you can't finish him, target the rax/tower instead! Force them to come. If you're having trouble finishing heroes in a gank or in a lane, try only purging when they begin to flee or are about to die.

If its a team game, your allies will have finishers, or disables, Medusa's job is to be a sponge if possible and shoot everything that moves. In a gank situation the 5 seconds of slow from purge should be sufficient to get a kill.

Thats my personal opinion on why not to get chain lightning. If you want to get it just for finishing, go ahead! If you want to not get split shot you better rethink your strategy, Medusa has 2 unique passives that increase with usefulness as the game progresses: Split shot (125% more damage) and Mana Shield (free HP). How long before chain lightning becomes only as powerful as your basic attack? Not long I'm afraid.

Purge definitely has to be one of the most frustrating, if not imba, skills in the game. Ultimates like God's Strength(Sven), Rampage(Troll) and other status-icon buffs become as useless as shit.

this hero is very skilled in killing people who summon cause of split shot and purge.

Split shot isnt useful in lane. And most orb works for her, but only on the main target.

Actually, just buy items for typical agility hero, except taking slightly notice on the mana. Arcane ring is good bacause excessive mana can be used for chain lightning. Skadi is good too, but butterfly is better. Dodge saves u the mana for that dodged hit.

this hero needs an early-game related buff, she is just too neutral a hero. A movespeed or attack animation speed increase would suffice imo. Even revamping her chain skill to better suit the play style (i.e. an attck or movespeed increase, maybe a healing skill or damage/armour aura) would be a much more fitting skill. Right now her skills just arent as synergized as any other hero's

split shot = get it once u hav a good damage item (2000g) = maybe 10 minutes in.
then u can use split shot to
A) Harrass melee heroes that try to last hit creeps.
B) Lower each individual creeps hp little faster.
C) You can always toggle it off to last hit creeps for gold, then toggle it again.

vlads used to work for ranged heroes who equipped the vlads, doesnt work at all anymore. but u probably only need the ring of basilus for regen, armour and aura.

i looked the strategies but i didnt like these infos. Nowadays, i’m playing with this hero and i tried so much way for more effective medusa. Now, i'm writing my best idea about her!
firstly medusa can't hit! But she can be effective early game with her ulti and chain. We should try to hit for late game. For using mana shield and giving more damage i buy ORCHID MALEVOLENCE, it gives mana regen + damage, BUT! orchid has got SOULBURN and it’s more important point for her, firstly SOULBURN + PURGE! after hit, how much u can hit!

+20 Intelligence
30% increased aspd
+40 damage
+225% mana regen
Soul Burn (active)
Soul Burn is “Silences a unit and makes it take 15% extra damage, lasts 4.5 seconds. “ .
U can buy 1or2 bracers and PT(str) or B of Travel. There is no any ORB EFFECT item. And we can buy SnY ----- “maim + purge + soulburn” they can’T walk!!!
U can’t be a primery killer hero with medusa but u can be a perfect team hero!

Just think ....Purge + slow from Skadi and maybe slow from S&Y...OMG ! SO IMBA !!!!

Orchid is cheaper than EoS and it gives:
+40 dmg
+30% -as
+20 INT
+225% mana regen
soul burn
Just think - it gives you more dmg and att spead than EoS and the 20 INT and the insane mana regen make you a TANK;
you already have purge and chance to maim, so EoS is not that much needed.

umm instead of heavy ass mana...try using the heads...money is nothing for this guy...get a assault curiass first, tear the creeps armor up and your a tank and a farmer...then you also lose less mana when attacked...then get either lothar (great damage, armor, and an easy escape)to stay alive or S&Y for hero killing...skaadii is good too...

She is a good looki' and nice hero too

How does split shot stack with MKB?

lets say i shot creep number 1
it should split and hit creep number 1,2 and 3. Does all 3 of the arrows get 75%dmg or only the 2nd and 3rd arrow get 75%dmg

I still don't know what's better to do when i'm against 1 opponent. Do i turn off split shot and increase attack by 25%? or do the 3 arrows stack up on one target?

- guyz, try to use guinsoo. her combo 4 this:
1. purge=5 secs
2. guinsoo=maybe for 2-3 secs
3. wait for purge again=5 secs
equal of 12-13 secs of trying to kill the hero, but it can be hard for medusa if she chase many enemy heroes.

- guyz, if you want good money at early games, try to max the level of split arrows and mana shield. almost all neutral creeps are in 3 so it's good in using split arrows. i'll bet to have the item crystalis because of its critical dmg and good for the 75% dmg of split arrows.

i wrote about orchid but now mana can't save our lifes. Because of medusa's third skill is changed. Now skadi can be more effective. Bur orchid able to help you. good luck

Stats are really good on her.... SOMUCH BETTER THAN SPILT ARROWS / CHAIN LIGHTNING

REASONS:
STATS: Mana sheild blocks damage relying on the fact that she has mana..
This makes her a sweet tank. Stats add mana, and health, and 2 to each. you say they dont add that much, but put together over the early levels combine to make it very good.

Split shot: (why not to get it early): Split shot is a waste early imo. You don't do that much damage to start off with, and splitting it so each does 50% is ridiculous. LEARN TO LAST HIT. Last hit and you will get more money than split shot will.

Chain Lightning: Sheild is her trademark iron wall, depending she has mana. Using chain lightning early drains all her mana making her very vulnerable, for only 300 dmg

Stats + sheild = much better than others

I've recently played with another dusa build similar to those i've bashed in the past (sob), so now I get to contradict myself.

She chose chain/mana shield for early game. So assume early game you get wraith bands and treads and preservence, which isn't unrealistic (linkens later). The key aspect here is that she did not use chain to harass, only assist in team battles. This allowed her to keep her mana shield up in o-shit times.

More aggressive than the tank build, she went like 13-1.

Was it better than the ugly tank build? I wouldn't say for sure but its different style. She was more aggressive in ganking. Wraith bands substituted for stats give great last hitting ability + survivability. Not as powerful midgame but definately more useful early game.

So in a nutshell: Chain + wraiths/treads = better earlygame, ugly tank = better mid/late game.

Requires strict restriction on NOT using chain to harass, only gank/kill (similar to double blade on brad).

an incoming 200 damage would mean on 100 damage to receiv.a lot better than vanguard,2 vanguard.then split shot.imagine if you had 200 damage and 75%..its a lot more better than cleving

i used mjo with satanic...my friend said that would'nt work 'coz 'orb effects do not stack' was in satanic's description, but mjo still worked...i forgot what map it was...i think its 6.something...that makes me think that maybe your right...

Split shot is not good for farming early game.

Medusa already has very low base damage, so getting the last hit on creeps (even when trying to time it) is difficult. Reduce this by 25-55% and it would be extremely rare to get the final hit on the creep. If you were to just autoattack with split shot activated chances are the other team would easily be able to deny nearly every single creep.
